The intervener technical certificate program at Shawnee State University is available to aides and paraprofessionals who are currently working with a child with a sensory or dual sensory impairment. Tuition assistance is available for aides and paraprofessionals to complete this online coursework. Not only will participating students develop competencies needed to support children with combined hearing-vision loss, but they will also enter a pipeline into the teaching profession. Completing the intervener certificate program positions graduates to earn an associate degree in paraprofessional studies in half the amount of time the program would normally take. Graduates of the paraprofessional studies program are halfway to earning an intervention specialist license. Please disseminate this information and the attached flyer to all districts and educational organizations in your region and assist ODE-OEC in increasing the number of individuals available to support children with visual impairment/blindness, hearing impairment/deafness, and deafblindness.
