THE OHIO FAMILY RESILIENCE PROJECT

Building and Maintaining Resilient Families: A Parent Guide

A practical, research-based guide to help parents and caregivers of children with low-incidence disabilities or intensive learning needs manage stress and build resilience — for themselves and their families.

Raising a child with a low-incidence disability or an intensive learning need brings real challenges — medical, financial, emotional, and social. This guide from the Ohio Family Resilience Project at Youngstown State University offers parents and caregivers an honest, research-based look at those challenges, paired with practical strategies for building resilience in themselves and their families.

Drawing on current research and the authors’ own studies with parents and caregivers, the guide introduces a four-stage model of resilience and eight concrete strategies for daily life — covering healthy habits, clear thinking, and strong relationships.

Download the full parent guide below, and watch the companion video for a closer look at putting these strategies into practice.
